Regular house cleanings are important, but certain chores don’t always have to be done with each cleaning. You might be able to wait a year between cleaning certain sections of your home, but you should clean these areas at least annually to make your home as dirt- and germ-free as possible. By cleaning these specific parts of your home at least once a year, you’ll be able to live in a cleaner, safer setting.
Window Coverings
Whether you have drapes, blinds, or other window coverings to shield the inside of your home from the bright sun and give you more privacy, these window coverings should be cleaned at least annually to remove the dust and dirt buildups that have accumulated on them. Many curtain fabrics won’t get harmed if they’re washed in your laundry machine or taken to a dry cleaner. Blinds should usually be dusted once a month, but deeper cleanings should be scheduled once a year.
Fireplace and Chimney
If your home has a fireplace and chimney, you should clean these areas yourself or hire professionals. A fireplace should generally be cleaned when about 1/8 of an inch of soot buildup has accumulated inside it, but you may have to clean more or less often depending on how much you use your fireplace. Professional chimney sweeps can come to you with all the right equipment to access each part of the chimney safely without damaging the brick or other structures.
Carpets (Deep Cleaning)
Your carpets should be vacuumed regularly to remove the debris that gets into the fibers, but deeper cleanings should be performed once a year. You can get a carpet shampooer or hire carpet cleaning professionals to clean your carpets on a deeper level so that more of the filth is removed. Deeper carpet cleanings can also remove more of the stubborn stains that you haven’t been able to get rid of with standard cleanings.
Gutters
Your home’s gutter system, which keeps rainwater from ruining or home’s siding or foundation, shouldn’t be forgotten. Ideally, you’ll clean your gutter system twice per year in the spring and fall seasons, but you might be able to get away with cleaning it annually if you don’t have a lot of trees near your house that could shed leaves, pine needles or other deposits into the gutters.
Cleanliness in the home should be a top priority for everyone, but you should also be aware of when certain things need to be cleaned so that you don’t forget to clean these areas or spend more time cleaning them than necessary. If you need help with any of your annual cleaning tasks, professionals can always lend a hand.
