Solar Panels: Creating Green Renewable Energy at Home

I remember taking an Environmental Science course back when I was in university. I was amazed at the concept of renewable energy and how great it is for the environment. It made me question why we’re still using fossil fuels, knowing how damaging it is to our environment.

I remember taking an Environmental Science course back when I was in university. I was amazed at the concept of renewable energy and how great it is for the environment. It made me question why we’re still using fossil fuels, knowing how damaging it is to our environment.

After some research, I decided that I would get solar panels installed on the roof of my home for all my electric needs. Not only did this bring me a significant reduction in my electricity bill, but I was also glad about playing a part in protecting the environment.

Below, I have listed some reasons why solar panels are a lot better than your conventional electricity systems:

More Control Through the Internet

One thing that I found really convenient about solar panels is that I got control over energy production and consumption in my home once I connected solar panels to the internet. Some solar solution companies give a real-time analysis on energy production and usage through specialized apps.

However, for accurate measurement and management, you must ensure that your internet connection rarely has any outages. In my case, I saw that the Xfinity internet service gets the job done brilliantly, helping me keep track of my energy usage and production, even remotely when I’m not at home.

Solar Panels Ensure Affordability

Keeping in mind that solar power brings a reduction in electricity bill, you would also be glad to know that solar panels are actually pretty affordable to install. In fact, installing solar panels can help you with your credit score as well.

People that pay taxes can claim a 30% credit on the cost of the solar panels that they buy, on their income. However, you need to get solar panels installed in your home before 1st January 2033 because after that, the credit percentage will be reduced to 26%.

You may also invest in cheaper plans where you have to pay less money upfront to get your solar panels. Even if you take a solar loan, it will still cost you less than a utility bill that you usually pay for your electricity.

Solar Panels are Friendlier for the Environment

This was the main reason that I decided to get solar panels in the first place.

Earlier, I mentioned how an Environmental Science course helped me understand how we are disrupting the Earth ourselves. I also learned that shifting to renewable sources of energy is one of the best ways to protect the Earth from further harm. We might even be able to reduce the drastic effects of climate change too.

Given how solar panels only make use of the potential energy stored in sunlight to convert it into electrical energy, there are no fossil fuels involved. This, in turn, ensures that there are no harmful emissions into the air.

While I may have shifted my house from using electric to solar energy, my next goal is to get an electric vehicle for myself to further fulfill my responsibility of becoming a citizen who saves the environment.

Independence from the Grid

Using solar panels means that I’m technically “off the grid” as in, off the electrical grid of course. Since I have my own energy production going on, I have nothing to do with the electrical grid providing everyone else their electricity.

Another thing that I absolutely love about using solar panels is that they act as my power backup in case the electricity goes out due to an outage. This is because solar panels use batteries which convert solar energy into electrical energy. Even on days when the daylight is less or there is an outage, I always have some extra juice in the batteries to rely on.

You Can Sell Back to the Grid!

While you might be off the electrical grid, you can actually sell your surplus energy back to the electrical grid.  And the best part is, you get paid for it! Most states in the United States allow people to sell their surplus energy so that it can be used by other people.

So, this way, not only are you generating electricity for your home but also doing a greater good to the community around you!

An Increased Home Value

Though this point isn’t related to energy production, but it’s still interesting that installing solar panels makes the value of your property go up. You can sell the house for a price higher than what you bought it for.

Hence, among benefits such as clean and green energy, independence from the grid, and greater credit score, you also increase the value of your house!

So, there you have it, these were some of many reasons for you to get solar panels installed in your house. Do you have any other reasons why installing solar panels in your home is a good idea? Let us know in the comments!
