When the hot temperatures of summer arrive at your home, you of course can't wait to turn on your air conditioning system. However, if you do so and nothing happens, it won't be long until you and your family are sweating day and night. Fortunately, having an AC maintenance routine can keep this from happening. If you are ready to do what's needed to keep your AC in great condition and running smoothly throughout the summer, here are some steps to include in your AC maintenance routine.
Check the Unit Panels
Before you need your AC on those hot days, always take time beforehand to check the unit panels. If you've had severe storms or a harsh winter, it's possible some of the panels could be slightly ajar or damaged. Should this be the case, fix it yourself if it seems like a simple repair. Otherwise, call an experienced technician for assistance.
Clean and Replace Air Filters
On your AC system, air filters should be cleaned and replaced at least once every three months. When they are not, this will make your AC unit work much harder than necessary. Over time, this can result in a motor or other components burning up or sustaining other damage, resulting in the need for extensive AC repair.
Clear Away Debris
Prior to the
need to use your AC system day after day, take some time to clear away any debris that has accumulated on your unit. From leaves and twigs to dirt and plenty of other stuff, failing to clear away debris such as this can lead to a variety of issues later on in the summer. Along with vacuuming up what you can easily reach, remove some panels if possible to clear away anything that may have gotten down inside your unit.
Inspect the Drainage Line
Last but not least, always inspect your AC system's drainage line for signs of damage or clogs. Very often, mold and algae can accumulate on these lines, resulting in a drainage flow that gets very slow or stops altogether. If you find problems such as clogs, using a vacuum hose within the drainage line will often solve the problem.
Whether you can tackle your AC maintenance routine yourself or need a technician to do it for you, making sure you do so before sizzling summer temps arrive will give you peace of mind, not to mention an AC system that will always perform well when it is needed most.
