Common AC Problems and How To Avoid Them

AC problems are common if you own one. When these problems arise, the AC fails to cool the air efficiently. Most of the issues can be prevented and also repaired easily.

Below are common AC problems and how to avoid them.

AC Blowing Hot or Warm Air

This is very uncomfortable, especially on a hot day and sweating. To avoid this, make sure you routinely check the ACs refrigerant so that it does not go below the required amount. In addition, make sure to check the filter often and clean it to avoid clogging. If the filter is old, replace it before it fails.

Unevenly Distributed Temperature

This is very common, especially when the room is unbalanced. You might find some areas in the room cooler or warmer than others. Many factors could lead to uneven temperature distribution, including windows, room size, external temperature, and air vent placement.

To avoid this problem, you can install dampers to redistribute the air and make sure to cover large windows with blinds or sun-blocking curtains.

Loud AC

For your AC to work, you only need to feel it, but not hear it. If your AC is loud, it indicates that it is struggling to keep you cool. Different sounds indicate different problems that a professional could only identify. A rattling sound may indicate motor, fans, or compressors problems, while a squealing and screeching sound may represent a faulty belt. Do not forget that the ac repair might require a professional in some cases.

To avoid loud AC problems, check your thermostat, change the filters, and clear litter around the house.

Complete Failure of the Fan

This happens regularly, and it should not be a cause for alarm. You need to check everyday things first, including switches and wiring issues, resetting the air conditioner, cleaning the filter, and spinning the fan blades clockwise to remove anything blocking the fan. If all the problem remains unsolved, the issue could be within some internal part, especially the capacitor, that will need a replacement.

The Air Conditioner Is Not Switching on

If the AC doesn’t switch on, it could mean a faulty power supply or an issue with the thermostat. Check the wiring and the thermostat. Decrease the thermostat temperature after ensuring it is set to cool mode. If the problem is not solved, call a technician to do the AC repair.

Whenever your AC fails, do not panic, and do not try fixing it yourself if you are not sure of what you are doing. If you encounter a serious issue, you should contact a technician to help you. Nonetheless, try keeping your AC clean to avoid most of these problems.
