Guest Post - 11 Daily Habits to Keep a House Clean and Tidy

Keeping up with daily housekeeping along with your other work can be tiring. But if you manage to make a good schedule, it will not be such a drag. A clean house means a clean mind. And the task gets easier if you make a habit of keeping things tidy instead of piling up the chores for a weekend.

There is no denying that a lot of time and hard work goes into keeping a house clean. But it is also worth the effort. It doesn’t matter what the size of the space you live in is, regular cleanliness has a deep impact on the quality of your life. The more you practice clean habits, the easier and less time-consuming the process will be. One of the basic tricks would be to list out your chores chronologically so that you get a basic idea of what you are dealing with. You will come to realize that it is not such a herculean task as your brain was making it out to be. A clean house also means reduced chances of germs spreading – which is especially desirable in such a precarious time.

To make this whole endeavor a little easier, we have curated a list of 11 daily habits that can guide you in keeping your house clean and tidy.

1. Start with a cleaning schedule

The first and foremost habit you should start with a cleaning schedule. Keeping your house clean is naturally not going to be the only thing in your mind. So, make a schedule that you can fit into your daily plans.

Imagine this, you promised a family member that you would accompany them to the escape room, but you went in on your head with the cleaning and will not make it in time. That would be so upsetting, right? A proper schedule will prevent such an incident and will also help you get into the habit of daily cleaning.

2. Make your bed

Make your bed immediately after you wake up. It is a healthy and clean habit that will bring a fresh start to your day. The clean bed will bring a clean look to your bedroom and will motivate you to clean the house as well. A bonus would be climbing into that bed after a long day of hard work.

3. Involve the family

If you do not live alone in the house, you should not be the only one in charge of cleaning. When everyone in the household pitches in with their efforts, it will drastically reduce the cleaning time. It could also turn into a daily family ritual.

Everyone should clean u after themselves. This will prevent the house from being messy, to begin with. Kids should also have appropriate tasks. This will instill good habits in them from childhood.

4. Prioritize your chores

After you have made your cleaning schedule, you must list out your chores. Keep track of the things you must take care of urgently and the ones that could be cleaned up later on. Taking charge of work according to their priority is a very healthy habit. Start with small, achievable goals and then move on to the bigger tasks. This method will make cleaning seem less difficult.

5. Keep cleaning supplies nearby

Since you are trying to make a habit out of daily cleaning, it is necessary that you keep all your cleaning supplies stored somewhere close and accessible. Disinfectants, mops, cleaning cloths, toilet scrubs, buckets, and any other necessary supplies should be placed conveniently. It will reduce the cleaning time and bring a proper rhythm to your schedule.

6. Daily laundry

Try to do at least one load of laundry daily. It is not possible to clean all your dirty clothes daily. But it is also not good to keep your dirty clothes piled up (yeah, we also had that laundry chair at some point).

Make your loads smaller and have the washing machine ready early in the morning. The laundry will be ready by the time you get ready for work. This is helpful n the sense that it will reduce the workload on the weekends and will stop you from looking for a pair of clean jeans when you want to go out on the weekend.

7. Clean the kitchen

The kitchen is easily one of the dirtiest places in the house. It is important to keep the kitchen clean. Wipe the faucets and unclog the drainage if there is some issue with the water pressure. Disinfect every possible surface. Wash the dishes, dry them, and put away the leftovers in the fridge. This is how you achieve the system of kitchen shutdown. This will reduce the kitchen from becoming messy after dinner and before you finally go to bed.

8. De-clutter

De-cluttering is a great cleanliness habit even outside the house. Organizing and deep cleaning will reduce the cleaning time by a lot. It is also a form of meditative cleaning that will bring you peace of mind.

9. Know your high traffic areas

You have to carefully understand which areas have high traffic in your household. This will help prevent the spread of dust and germs in other parts of the house. Try not to wear shoes inside your house so that the carpets remain clean. Wipe your hands before touching any clean surface, and wipe your feet on the doormat. Vacuum the high traffic areas regularly as well.

10. Clean up immediately

By cleaning up immediately, we mean clean up as you go. If it is possible that you can clean up the mess right after you have made a snack or tried a dress, it will remove the possibility of further dirtying the house. Put away magazines, toys, and similar things so that the floor remains tidy as well.

11. 10-minute clean-up

Lastly, practice a ten-minute clean-up ritual every day. Clean up some small things from your cleaning list and tidy up the house bit by bit. Cleaning itself is a very peaceful practice, and this will help in winding down before you go to bed.

Endnote

A clean house is always a better place to live in. It not only guarantees a hygienic living condition but can also have a positive impact on your mood and overall mental health. So, it is a good investment of your time and efforts to clean up regularly and give yourself a much-deserved high-quality lifestyle.
