3 Ways To Keep Your Home Office More Organized

If you have a designated home office, you may have found, like many, that this space gets easily overrun with clutter not only meant for your office but also from various areas around your home. In a space like this, it can be hard to clear your mind enough to focus on your work in a productive way. So to help you overcome this issue and get yourself back on track, here are three ways you keep your home office better organized.

Uncover What Your Organizational Style Is

Before you can make any real headway toward getting your home office more organized, you’re first going to want to figure out what your individual organizational style is.

To help you discover what this is for you, Stephanie Watson, a contributor to How Stuff Works, suggests that you take a look at what tools you’ve used to organize in the past. For example, you may have used things like files, racks, baskets, and other items that can corral and maintain your clutter.

While some of these may have worked for you, others may have made your life harder to manage or even more stressful. So before you start adding or taking anything out of your home office, really think about which organizational items make things easier for you and have had a positive impact on you in the past.

Give Everything A Home

Once you’ve figured out what your organizational style is and which organizational tools are going to be most beneficial to you, you then need to get rid of any items that aren’t working for you in your home office.

Whatever you have left after this process should then be given a specific home within your office. To do this, you may need to purchase some additional organizational items or pieces of office furniture to help you accomplish this goal. Along with this, Caroline Utz, and Amanda Garrity, contributors to Good Housekeeping, share that you should also get smaller organizational tools to break up some of your clutter, like drawer dividers that allow you to keep everyday desk accessories easy to organize and grab whenever you need them.

Try Cabinets Rather Than Shelves

In many home offices, shelves are a staple for organization. However, if you allow your shelves to become disorganized, as often happens throughout a hard day’s work, it can make your entire space appear disheveled.

To keep this from becoming a problem for you, Shelby Deering, a contributor to The Spruce, recommends that you install cabinets rather than shelves so that you can close them off if they get cluttered themselves. This will help your entire space look organized even if things get messy every once in a while.

If you’ve been having a hard time keeping your home office organized, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you get things back under control.
