If you’d like your house to be a little cleaner, then you’re not alone. As many as 2 out of 3 people say that they could use a little work when it comes to their house cleaning skills. But, the truth is, sometimes just wanting a clean home isn’t enough.

Sometimes there’s just too much to do in a day to make sure that it all gets done. Between kids leaving their messes around, fingerprints accumulating on your glass doors, and your clothes piling up on top of your partner’s, it can quickly start to pile up.

The great news is that there are some basic tips to help you stay on track, even when it seems like too much to handle.

Do Small Bits

One of the biggest reasons why cleaning seems like such a chore is because all too often, we do it in large amounts. We wait until everything gets to an overloaded state before we take action. But we’re only creating more work for ourselves by doing this, even if it feels like we’re buying ourselves time.

Try to get into the habit of doing a little bit every day. Whether it’s laundry, cleaning the windows, or wiping down surfaces. Make it a daily habit to do a little of it all whenever you can!

Clear off Surfaces

No matter how much you deep clean your floors or dust your shelves, your home is going to look disheveled if there’s clutter. Make it a habit of clearing off clutter regularly. Since clutter can start to add up little by little, it’s important to get rid of it at the end of each day.

Get clutter baskets and distribute them throughout the house. Putting things into baskets takes a few seconds and can totally transform your home. No longer do you have things piled up on top of each other, but rather hidden in baskets out of view.

Make Use of Storage Space

If you have closets and shelves, then use them! Your home will look much cleaner if you keep things out of the main living area and in storage where they belong.

This is especially helpful if you live in a small space like an apartment. If you want to make things look even less cluttered, then consider getting furniture with built-in storage. It’s as simple as lifting your couch and carefully placing extra items inside.

Start a Routine

One of the best ways to get into the habit of doing something is to incorporate it into your daily routine. Get into the habit of straightening up your house for an hour a day. After a while, it will become like second nature!
