Guest Post - Home gardening, why it is need of an hour

Excessive pollution, unwanted crowd, disposal of waste in open grounds, etc have led to a lot of environmental damage that will further lead to severe health-related problems in the future. Even food nowadays is full of toxic chemicals and pesticides which is why people are hesitant in buying vegetables and fruits from the market. Consumption of such chemicalized eatables can cause diseases or even death. Therefore, the concept of growing food at home is coming back in trend because people are now getting more and more aware of food adulteration. Home gardening has been practiced in different regions of the planet for quite a long time now, it was due to the fast-pacing world that people discontinued it to meet their needs with ease and more quickly. However, now people have started the practice again. But the above mentioned is not the only reason why home gardening is important, then why do now people choose home gardening?

Plants provide us happiness and positivity! A live example

Plants, trees, are beneficial for humans, as they do provide you with clean breathing air, and pure food items, for a fact. At the same time, being surrounded by plants makes us humans feel happy and positive. No! This is not a joke or just a statement but is genuinely true. An MBA student from British Columbia believes that plants give us happiness. “I am busy in my studies in the day time and I work in the afternoon hours which explains how occupied my schedule is. A few months ago, my friend insisted so I bought a few plant pots and placed them in front of my house's main gate. I don’t know how or why, but I felt a strange sort of happy feeling even after being dead tired and stressed due to studies and work”.

Home-grown food helps you cut your extra costs!

If you grow your food at home, you will be able to manage your monthly expenses. Now you might say that the expenses would not vary as you would have to buy pots, mud, seeds, organic compost, etc but believe me, with time, the cost will reduce. Generally, you spend a part of your income on fruits and vegetables that are adulterated and contain harmful pesticides. You might not have control over the growth of those food items, however, if your growth themselves, you would be able to manage the costs in your way.

It is just the beginning of the environmental impact

Amid such a growing polluted environment, we do have a chance to reduce it. Using your home waste to convert it into compost rich in nutrients rather than throwing it in the dustbin. This helps you in two ways, first, you get a natural fertilizer for your home garden and second you reduce the waste production of your home. This is another important aspect of why home gardening is vital.

Keeps you busy in something productive

When you devote your free time to something productive, by watering or cleaning the plants, you feel alive and happy from inside that you have been able to invest your precious time doing something good rather than just scrolling your social media feed which is of no use. Investing time in the home garden adds value to your life. Also, caring for the plants and the garden gives a chance to the family members to work together which bonds them.

Home-grown food provides nutritious and chemical-free fruits and vegetables

As I mentioned in a paragraph above, we don’t have control if someone else grows food and sells the chemical-filled items to us. However, if we grow the veggies and fruits at home, we can manage and discontinue the usage of items that prove to be harmful to the plants. Homegrown food is tastier, nutritious, chemical/pesticide-free. Home gardening is not a must but it must be practiced because each little effort would lead to a huge difference.
